Residents in Sydney’s northern districts now have access to the latest 3 Tesla MRI machine – a Philip’s Intera Achieva MR at the Northside Medical Imaging Palmerston Road practice in Hornsby. The multi-million dollar 3T MRI scanner is the first of its kind available in Northern Sydney – and one of only a few in the metropolitan area. This is the second 3T MRI scanner I-MED Network has installed in NSW, the other one operating at the Central Coast Radiology Practice at Gosford. The 3T MRI will provide a quicker and more detailed view of specific organs and structures. This will assist specialists in early diagnosis, subsequent patient management and treatment of diseases including cancer. Most importantly it offers local residents the very latest in imaging techniques and opens the window to new areas of investigation in multiple diseases.
This new technology complements the centre’s existing high standard of equipment which includes the 64 slice CT which provides high quality detailed data of all examinations and is particularly useful in CT of the heart. This provides local residents with an exceptional standard of diagnostic imaging facilities.
In order to install this new 3T MRI and other new equipment a significant refurbishment of the Hornsby practice has been completed. The refurbishment and existing free undercover parking have been designed to make the experience as convenient as possible for patients.
